Fitness & Training Experience
When I lived in Sri Lanka and played rugby, I engaged in exercising as part of the routine. When I moved to Canada in 2012, I really started taking fitness seriously and changed my lifestyle to be a more active one and never looked back. I loved every course I took during my Kinesiology degree and became a CSEP certified trainer in 2015 and worked at University of Saskatchewan. As I worked with varsity athletes as a trainer & volunteered at physiotherapy clinic- I fell in love with rehabilitation & exercise as medicine concepts.
I continued to work as a trainer while I pursued my BSN. Upon becoming an RN, I continued my passion for fitness through working as a trainer at a group gym that catered to older adult functional fitness. Most of my work experience as an RN was in rehabilitation settings as well. I obtained my Kinesiologist designation and worked in a clinical setting as a workplace injury rehabilitation specialist. I continue to work in acute care rehabilitation setting with AHS while hoping to contribute my knowledge for the improvement of MNPCSC Members fitness & health.
Training Philosophy
Sustainability is Key. Short term goals are good, but my focus is to give my clients the tools to be able to be active for a prolonged period in their life. I take a holistic approach to my training and try to address a variety of areas including injury prevention, functional daily living, recreational activity improvement & strengthening. I believe setting a good foundation for active living of any individual will help them sustain an active lifestyle. Exercise is the best form of medicine.
