Exercise is Medicine® Canada (EIMC) is a movement to encourage a healthy lifestyle among Canadians

Physical activity is an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Regular physical activity can help to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, colon cancer, breast cancer, type-2 diabetes and osteoporosis.

THE PROGRAM

  • Initial and Post Program Assessments
  • Heart Rate
  • Blood Pressure
  • Waist Circumference
  • Bioimpedence Test
  • Vitality Plus Scale
  • Health and Fitness coaching sessions
  • CSEP- Clinical Exercise Physiologist prescribed exercise
  • Lifestyle coaching
  • Cardio, strength, balance and flexibility training included

THE DETAILS

  • 8 week Program 2 times/week
  • 75 minute sessions
  • Access to the Facility from 10am-4pm Monday to Friday
  • Maximum 16 people per program
  • Continuous entry, 2 people per week
  • Cost: $125 (+ GST)

How much physical activity unlocks heart health benefits?

According to the Canadian 24 Hour Movement Guidelines, adults should aim to get 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity per week.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Kinesiology, University of Manitoba
  • Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology- Clinical Exercise Physiologist
  • Canadian Society of Exercise Physiology- High Performance Specialist

Background:

Sam graduated with a Bachelor of Kinesiology in early 2015 after completing her practicum at a Medical Fitness Facility, the Reh-Fit Centre in Winnipeg. She was hired on and worked at the Reh-Fit Centre for 6.5 years. She then started working in programming, wellness coaching, group fitness and fitness assessments. After working there and studying for her certification, she received her full CSEP-CEP in 2018. While working at the Reh-Fit she oversaw and ran the Exercise is Medicine program for 2 years. She also instructed programs such as Cardiac Rehab, Diabetes, Stroke, Cancer, Post Op Hip & Knee. She has worked with various chronic diseases/conditions and with people of all ages. Her specialities include lifestyle management, working with seniors, and helping people get started on their fitness journey.
